So sweet

Nothing profound to say today. Just wanted to show some recent pictures of our little Punkin :-)

The adoption process

Yesterday, we met with our adoption attorney. He said everything looks great with our case. We just had to sign some papers. He has ordered a copy of Essie's birth certificate. Once that arrives, he can file paperwork with the court. By state law, our finalization hearing can't be until we've had custody of Essie for 6 months. So, everything should happen mid-August.

We've heard great stories about the judge who presides over the adoption hearings. We'll be going to Xenia (Greene County) because that is where the agency is located. The judge loves adoptions and really makes the hearing a celebration - our attorney said a picture of Essie with the judge is a must :-) It will certainly be a day to celebrate!!!! We have some 'It's a Girl' chocolate cigars we forgot about when Essie was born, so they'll be passed around in court :)

I've been keeping in touch with a lot of the families from the adoption class we took at Kettering Medical Center. Five of us have babies now - one couple just took custody of their son yesterday! One couple had their hearing a couple weeks ago; another is scheduled for next month. The time seems to be going by so fast, our day will be here before we know it!!!!

Meeting

I just spoke with the attorney handling our adoption. We are headed to Cincinnati tomorrow morning to meet with him and get the legal process going!!!

Fit baby

Essie is going to be one fit baby! She loves her Exersaucer already. She's not quite big enough to sit in it on her own and play, but she loves to try it! She's so fascinated by all the toys!!!

Jabberjaws

Essie discovered her voice recently. It is such a sweet sound!

She talks when she's laying under her play gym and when she wakes up from a nap in her bed. Even as we're driving down the road, we hear her jabbering away in the back seat!!! Occasionally, she must say something funny because she giggles at herself, too! :-)

Yuck!

Funny how your definition of 'yuck' changes when you become a parent! This might be too much yuck for some of you. If so, stop reading now. If you have kids and pets, this has probably happened to you.....

Anyone in my family can attest to how weak my stomach has always been. Just making certain noises is enough to drain the blood from my face. My cousin Michelle is 4 years younger than me. As children at family gatherings, we couldn't be in the same room during meal time. She was such a messy eater, watching her would make me gag.

So why didn't this morning bother me? Mind you, I was a little tired this morning....We went to bed late last night. Essie decided to talk and giggle, then poop at her 4AM feeding instead of going right back to sleep like usual. There was a stray cat on our patio making strange noises half the night. I kept waking up thinking it was the baby crying. Then, I finally got smart and closed our window! And, this morning the dogs were barking at who knows what outside and woke the baby earlier than normal. So, yeah, a little tired.

Anyway, I was carrying Essie around, her head was on my shoulder. I heard the noise; I know what usually follows the noise. I couldn't grab the burp rag fast enough. You can guess what was soon running down my arm. Literally, I was wearing a tank top, so it was running down my arm. Then, I heard the splash on the floor. That alone used to be pretty high on my yuck meter. Barely phases me now. But then, before I could think about leaning down with a rag, one of the dogs cleaned up the floor for me.

On the one hand, I was pretty grossed out. On the other, I was tired and very glad I didn't have to bend over with the baby in my arms.

Meet Hiccup

This is Essie's best friend, Hiccup. He lives above the changing table in her room. Strange name, we know. Nearly every time Essie is having fun with him, she gets the hiccups so...it stuck!

Like any best friend, Hiccup can brighten her day and make her feel better about anything. Well, except for lotion time after her bath......

Diaper changes usually end up being 10-15 minutes long. She will just lay on the table and look at him with the biggest grins you've ever seen. She talks to him and has even giggled a few times. And, boy do her legs and arms go crazy! It's pretty amazing - she can be screaming her head off when we lay her down. Once she realizes where she is, she's in a totally different mood! (Remember, mommy's camera isn't quite fast enough to catch the smiles. She's hoping daddy will get her a new one soon!!)

We even took him to PA with us so she could have a taste of home.

PS...Mommy is feeling much, much better. So far, Essie is showing no signs of catching the cold!

Mommy is sick

I woke up Monday morning with a sore throat. Tuesday and Wednesday were progressively worse. Today is just awful! Please join Nick and me in praying that Essie does not catch this from me!!!! I'm trying not to hold her and certainly not breathe on her, but.......well, all the moms out there understand how it is!!
